Bona Intense: Waterborne Primer for Wooden Floors

What is Bona Intense?

Bona Intense is a one-component, waterborne primer specially developed for priming wooden floors. This primer provides a clear wood coloring and is suitable for virtually all types of wood, including tropical wood. Bona Intense is easy to sand and particularly suitable for floors with underfloor heating and floating floors, such as end grain or plank floors. The primer reduces the risk of edge-bonding and is GreenGuard-certified for low indoor emissions, contributing to a healthier living environment.

How the Product Works

Bona Intense works by creating an even, well-adhering base coat that is suitable for the application of further layers of lacquer. The primer has a solid content of 32% and dries within 1-2 hours at normal room temperature (20°C and 60% relative humidity). It can be easily applied with a Bona Microfleece Roller, with a recommended coverage of 8-10 m² per liter. For optimal results, the surface must be thoroughly sanded down, dry, and free of contaminants. For tropical wood species or when used in dry conditions, Bona Retarder can be added to extend the open time and reduce the risk of overlaps and discoloration.

Benefits and Features

Bona Intense offers several benefits for preparing wooden floors. The product provides a clear wood coloring and is easy to sand, contributing to a smooth and even final result. The primer is particularly suitable for use on floors with underfloor heating and reduces the risk of edge-bonding. With GreenGuard certification for low emissions and an EMICODE EC2 classification, Bona Intense is an environmentally friendly choice. Additionally, it meets European standards for reaction to fire (EN 13501-1) and toy safety (EN 71-3).

Instructions for Use

Before use, shake the Bona Intense well. Apply the primer evenly in the direction of the wood grain with a Bona Microfleece Roller, with a recommended coverage of 8-10 m² per liter. Allow the layer to dry for 2-3 hours before beginning intermediate sanding. For intermediate sanding, it is advised to use the Bona Scrad System with Wing grit 150 or finer, or Bona Diamond Abrasives grit 120. Thoroughly remove all dust and then apply one or two layers of Bona Topcoat. Note: Bona Intense should not be used as a final coat and is not compatible with Bona Mega EVO topcoat.

Maintenance and Advice

Ensure the wood is well acclimatized and that the substrate is well prepared for treatment. Use Bona Intense only on untreated wood and not in combination with other finishing products such as paint or oil. On tropical wood species or softwoods, the drying time may be significantly extended due to natural ingredients such as tannins and resins. It is recommended to always conduct a test on a small area to assess the color and appearance of the system. Store Bona Intense at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C and follow the safety instructions for safe use.
