Bona Amber: Waterborne Primer for Wooden Floors

What is Bona Amber?

Bona Amber is a waterborne primer specifically developed for use with all Bona waterborne finishes. This primer combines the rich color and intensity of oil-based products with the low VOC levels and safety of waterborne finishes. The result is a product that provides a natural look to wooden floors while being environmentally friendly. The Bona Amber primer ensures that wooden floors get a deep, warm color without using harmful chemicals. This makes it an excellent choice for both home use and professional applications. Bona Amber is not suitable for patterned floors but is ideal for other wooden floors. Bona Amber is easy to apply and dries quickly, making it an ideal choice for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. The primer is well sandable and reduces the risk of edge bonding, which extends the life of the floor.

How the product works

Bona Amber works by forming a protective layer on the wooden floor, making it more resistant to wear and damage. The primer penetrates deep into the wood, providing a rich, warm color that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. This product should always be used in combination with Bona waterborne finishes for the best result. The drying time of Bona Amber is 2-3 hours at a temperature of 20°C and a relative humidity of 60%. Higher temperatures and lower humidity will shorten the drying time, while lower temperatures and higher humidity will extend the drying time. The minimum application temperature is 13°C.

Advantages and Properties

Bona Amber offers several advantages and properties that make it an excellent choice for finishing wooden floors. First, it provides a rich wood color that enhances the natural appearance of the floor. Additionally, it has a quick drying time, speeding up the work process. The primer is also well sandable, meaning that any unevenness can be easily removed. Furthermore, Bona Amber reduces the risk of edge bonding, contributing to the durability of the floor. An important aspect is that the product is not classified as hazardous, contributing to safety during use. The primer is also not suitable for patterned floors but works excellently on other types of wooden floors.

Instructions for Use

For optimal results with Bona Amber, the floor must be well prepared. Ensure the floor is well acclimatized and that the surface is sanded, dry, and free of dust, oil, wax, and other contaminants. Use the Bona Scrad System or Bona sanding mesh grit P120 for the final sanding. Allow the product to come to room temperature and shake well before use. Apply Bona Amber evenly without thickness differences and always work wet-on-wet to avoid overlaps. For highly absorbent wood species and special floors, such as end grain, a higher consumption is necessary. If desired, an additional layer of Bona Prime Amberseal can be applied for a deeper color.

Treatment Schedule

Bona Amber should never be used as the final finish for wooden floors. After applying Bona Amber, a Bona finish must be used. The treatment schedule may vary depending on the specific conditions, but generally, after the first coat of Bona Amber, an intermediate sanding with Scrad Pad + Wing 150 or sanding net K150 is required. Then, a second coat of Bona Amber is applied after 4-6 hours of drying time. If the second coat is applied the next day, the floor should first be lightly sanded. After the second coat of Bona Amber, one or two coats of Bona finish are applied, depending on the desired finish and wear resistance. The maintenance of the floor can be easily carried out with Bona maintenance products.
