What is Stauf Multilayer?

Stauf Multilayer is an elastic 1-component hybrid parquet adhesive that complies with ISO 17178, specifically designed for multilayer parquet according to DIN EN 13489. This high-quality adhesive is known for its excellent workability, elasticity, and easy removal of adhesive residues. Stauf Multilayer is solvent-free and contains no water, making it safe to use without health risks. The adhesive provides very good bonding edges and is resistant to aging, ensuring a long lifespan. Moreover, Stauf Multilayer is suitable for use on various substrates, including concrete, cast asphalt, and various types of chipboard and OSB, provided they are properly prepared.

How does Stauf Multilayer work?

Stauf Multilayer is applied with a suitable notched trowel, evenly distributing the adhesive over the substrate. The parquet is placed in the adhesive bed within an installation time of 30 minutes and firmly pressed down. Due to the elasticity of the adhesive, tensions between the parquet and the substrate are reduced, ensuring a stable and durable floor installation. The adhesive cures through a reaction with moisture from the surrounding air, the wood, or the substrate. A higher ambient temperature accelerates this process. The adhesive remains somewhat flexible after curing, contributing to a durable bond and minimizing the risk of cracks.

Advantages and Properties

Stauf Multilayer offers various advantages, such as excellent workability and elasticity, resulting in a flexible yet strong bond between the parquet and the substrate. The adhesive is easy to apply and has a high level of adhesion without causing swelling of the wood. Stauf Multilayer is very low in emissions (EC1 plus certified) and suitable for use on underfloor heating. Furthermore, the adhesive is not frost-sensitive and can be safely stored in dry and cool conditions. Adhesive residues can be easily removed, depending on the curing status, with a designated stain remover from Stauf.

Instructions for Use

Before applying Stauf Multilayer, the substrate must be properly prepared and checked according to DIN 18356 and other relevant standards. The substrate must be pressure-resistant, dry, flat, dust-free, and free of adhesion-inhibiting layers. The adhesive should be applied evenly to the substrate with a trowel with the correct tooth size. Within 30 minutes, the parquet must be laid in the adhesive bed with a sliding motion and pressed down firmly. Adhesive residues should be removed immediately to avoid problems with later finishing products. For optimal results, the ambient temperature should be between 18°C and 25°C, with a maximum humidity of 75%.

Maintenance and Advice

Stauf Multilayer has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in dry and cool conditions. The product should not be exposed to frost. Regularly check the ambient climate during processing to ensure optimal curing and performance. When working with cast asphalt screeds or other specific substrates, it is advisable to first apply a suitable primer such as STAUF VEP 195. To fill cracks or irregularities in the subfloor, various leveling products from Stauf can be used. For specific applications and conditions, it is always advisable to contact the manufacturer or an expert.
